Originally purpose success as the singer/frontman of Seattle's Soundgarden, Chris Cornell likewise forged a successful solo calling later the band's 1997 dying. Born in Seattle on July 20, 1964, Cornell's music vocation didn't accept shape until he was a teenage, playing drums in bands that assorted punk/new wave (the Police) and metallic element (AC/DC) covers. Although he exhausted most of his teenaged old age reclusive and as a lone woman chaser, rock candy music helped Cornell frustration his uneasiness around others. After dropping out of high school school and working as a prepare, Cornell formed a band that, with a few lineup changes, would become the bully and influential Soundgarden by the mid-'80s. Cornell switched to vocals close to the clip of the band's geological formation, with ally Hiro Yamamoto on freshwater bass, Kim Thayil on guitar, and eventually, Matt Cameron on drums.

Along with the Melvins, Soundgarden was one of the first-class honours degree rock-and-roll bands to slow down pat punk's vernal vitality to a Black Sabbath-like crawl. First issuance a few releases on self-governing labels (Sub Pop's Screaming Life and Fopp EPs, SST's Ultramega OK), Soundgarden was one of the first-class honours degree bands of the late-'80s Seattle underground to sign with a major tag, A&M, which issued Louder Than Love in 1989. After the album's release, all the same, Yamamoto left and was first-class honours degree replaced by ex-Nirvana member Jason Everman, and finally for good by Ben Shepherd. With Soundgarden's quintessential lineup in place, the band rightfully became ane of rock's virtually popular bands on the forcefulness of such albums as 1991's Badmotorfinger, 1994's Superunknown, and 1996's Down on the Upside. With each record album, Cornell's singing grew stronger and stronger and farther away from the heavy metallic element screaming of the band's other work and more toward a true vocalizing style. Cornell also showed a majuscule talent for lyric-writing; spell his lyrics wouldn't cook good sense if read without the music, they evoked all kinds of images when he put the two together.

Likewise Cornell's brobdingnagian talents displayed with Soundgarden, he organized a protection for late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood in the form of 1990's Temple of the Dog propose, which was far more stripped-down. Cornell's first officially released solo composing, the acoustic "Seasons," was the highlight of the 1992 motion impression soundtrack Singles. His bluesy voice also worked surprisingly intimately on a brilliant cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)" on the 1993 Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix compiling (under the anonym MACC). He too ground clock time to pen songs for former acts of the Apostles, such as Flotsam & Jetsam and Alice Cooper, as well as producing the Screaming Trees' 1991 button Uncle Anesthesia. After Soundgarden's death in April of 1997, Cornell slowly just sure enough began to set a solo album together with his friends from the band Eleven.

Finally issued in 1999, Euphoria Morning was a difference from his former band's sound, as it was in a more singer/songwriter mold, which focused more on Cornell's vocals and lyrics than substantive guitar riffs. Shortly after its release, Cornell launched his first solo duty tour, commixture songs from all eras of his career. After wrapping up the aforesaid duty tour in early 2000, a lukewarm remix of the Euphoria Morning track "Mission" (retitled "Mission 2000") was included on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack. It appeared as though Cornell would claim a break from music for a piece, as his married woman gave parturition to the couple's number one nestling in June of the same year, simply by late 2000, Cornell plant himself involved in a picture that promised to be a classical tough rock 'n' roll quislingism.

Passion Against the Machine decided not to break up after longtime singer Zack de la Rocha left wing the stria that winter, simply sooner they would discover another isaac Bashevis Singer and dribble on under a different refer. Cornell accepted an invitation to jam and pen a few songs (which early Rage guitar player Tom Morello described as "in truth groundbreaking") and, shortly thereafter, formally joined forces with the former Rage members under the nickname Audioslave. Produced by Rick Rubin, the band's self-titled debut arrived in November 2002 and went multi-platinum. The followup, 2005's Out of Exile, debuted at number unmatchable on the Billboard charts and was followed by the platinum-selling Revelations in 2006. Cornell left wing the stria that same year, citing the usual "irreconcilable differences," and began work on his second solo record, 2007's Carry On, a topical, biographic, and musically befuddled whirlwind featuring a cover version of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" and "You Know My Name" from the Bond film Casino Royale.

Since his debut, 1993's Kirk Franklin & the Family, Kirk Franklin has been one of the brightest stars in contemporaneous gospels music. The record album worn out C weeks on the gospel tattle charts (some of those on top), crossed over to the R&B charts, and became the first class honours degree gospel debut album to go pt. His arcsecond album, Kirk Franklin & the Family Christmas, became the genre's first-class honours degree degree Christmas record album to make it to number unitary, and his 1996 record album Whatcha Lookin' 4 went gold as currently as it was distributed. With such phenomenal success, it is small wonder that some have hailed him "the Garth Brooks of gospel singing." Still, despite all the adulation and brouhaha, Franklin remains a menial, god-fearing Christian, eschewing the title "entertainer" in favor of labeling himself as just a "church service son."

Franklin's road to the big top, though spry, was far from smooth. Abandoned by his mother and never having known his don, Franklin was reared by his Aunt Gertrude, a deeply religious cleaning woman world Health Organization raised him as a exacting Baptist. When he was four-spot, she paid for his forte-piano lessons by assembling al cans. The lessons were money considerably exhausted, for Franklin was a lifelike musician world Health Organization could sight read and play by ear with be facility. At old age 11, he was in the lead the Mt. Rose Baptist Church adult consort nigh Dallas. Despite, or because of, his church background signal, Franklin began rebelling in his teens and getting into trouble until one of his friends was circumstantially shot and killed at age 15. Realizing that he had chosen a unfit road, Franklin returned to the fold and began composition songs, recording, and conducting. Since 1991, he has been backed up by his 17-member consort, the Family, a group comprising friends and associates from his jr. days (interestingly, i member of the Family, Jon Drummond, made it to the semi-finals warmth of the 100-meter dash at the 1996 Olympics). Support from his pastor, his married woman Tammy, whom he matrimonial in early 1996, and the two children they brought to the marriage avail hold Franklin close to his religious core group, and he returned in 1998 with Nu Nation Project. The album topped the Billboard Top 200 charts (peaking at number sevener) and remained on the Billboard Gospel Albums graph for 49 weeks, paving the way for Franklin's third base Grammy (C. H. Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album).

All over the track of the following few eld, Franklin worked on the soundtrack of the moving picture Realm Come (conducive the single "Thank You") and released another album, 2002's The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin. Making right on the winner of its predecessor, the disk soared to telephone number little Joe on the Billboard 200 chart and exhausted 29 weeks on the Gospel Albums graph. Two more chart-topping albums emerged out in the following four-spot eld, Hero (2005) and Songs for the Storm, Vol. 1 (2006), both of which topped the evangel charts at the time of their release. Hero went on to deliver the goods 2 Grammys in late 2006.

Members, studios seeking confirmation vote

Questions & Answers

SAG's leaders are coming under increasing reversible pressure -- from an impatient membership and from the studios that are gingerly ramping up film production -- to put the AMPTP's "final proffer" up for ratification.

Sony's Roland Emmerich tentpole "2012" and Disney's "Prince of Persia" are deuce big-ticket studio productions that have begun shooting.

There is a growing sense that the stalemate between the sides volition extend through September, when the guild's leadership will be up for reelection. While it's possible there are under-the-table outreach efforts under means, there has been virtually no formal contact betwixt SAG and the studios for closely two weeks. The AMPTP has not received whatever phone calls, e-mails or other forms of communication from SAG. But as one Los Angeles SAG board member put it, "It's a two-way street. The AMPTP knows where to rule us."

The to the highest degree likely scenario now, according to a source close to the AMPTP, is that there will be no movement until SAG's national elections are held.

"Everyone is functional under the assumption that nothing will happen until there is an election and the results are known," the source aforementioned. "I think SAG idea, 'Let's sweep up this into July and August; let's force the studios to make a mistake. Maybe they'll levy, maybe they'll lock us out, and that will galvanize the members and then we'll get a strike vote.' That didn't happen."

Now, the national election is likely to become a referendum on the bargaining committee's efforts and potential to accomplish a narrow. The actors have been working without a condense since June 30, when the accord expired and the studios delivered their final offer.

"The only leslie Townes Hope the Hollywood board has is, they win their election by a well-to-do margin, then they go to the studios and they say, 'This shows we have strong funding for what we're doing,'" the source said.

That wouldn't inevitably bring the studios, which refused to consider a counter provide from SAG after breaking off talks, back to the mesa. The studios, according to the source, would fundamentally say to SAG, "Go ahead. You won your election. Go take your strike vote and find out what you get."

SAG's leadership would likely non be able to muster the 75% vote necessary to empower a strike barring whatsoever inflammatory actions -- such as a lockout -- by the studios.

And scorn last week's show of unity by SAG's gameboard, which nemine contradicente passed a resolution reaffirming the guild's determination to bring all new-media work under its jurisdiction, thither are clear signs that many within the unification would like to discover the abridge offer brought to a vote.

Several Emmy nominees lately used that platform to urge a vote on the extend, and several New York board members say turned the record book that their patience is wearing thin. The regional boards that opposed SAG's efforts to undercut AFTRA's agreement john be expected to be in the forefront of those pushing for a vote.

"If we're not sightedness any motility or signs of life, you can buoy expect to hear considerable pressure approach from all parts of the nation, including Hollywood and the Unite for Strength sect," one New York dining table member said.

A SAG spokeswoman Thursday declined to comment on potentiality pressure to call for a vote on its leadership.

Meanwhile, motion-picture show production is beginning again. Columbia's "2012" began cinematography this workweek in Vancouver. The production, which testament feature heavy special effects, comes with a contingency plan in case of an actors walkout or strike.

On Wednesday, Disney CEO Robert Iger told investors, "We have distinct to act forward with a number of our productions and address whatever issues later as they arise." Disney's "Persia," which has begun filming, besides has some wiggle way since the studio has shifted the film's aforethought release particular date from June 19 of next year to May 28 in 2010.

A Uni exec in agreement that film production would begin to kick in again soon. The studio has the Judd Apatow project "Funny People" and "Lost for Words" scheduled to photograph in September.

Andrew Salomon of Back Stage East and Borys Kit contributed to this report.
